In celebration of National Reuse Day on October 20, r.Cup, the nation’s No. 1 reuse platform, announced its transition to r.World, supporting r.Cup reusable cups, r.Ware reusable foodware and future reuse extensions, all powered by r.Turn, the company’s innovative inventory and environmental impact tracking app. With more than 1 trilion single-use foodware items thrown out annually,1 r.World addresses single-use waste by building the infrastructure, platform, and movement for the global reuse economy. r.World made its official debut in Las Vegas diverting hundreds of thousands of single-use cups from the landfill already.
“It’s National Reuse Day, and we can’t think of a better time to announce our new name, logo and look that better reflects our ultimate vision for a future where reuse is widespread - and the norm - not just across the US, but also globally,” said Michael Martin, r.World Founder and CEO. “At r.World, we’ve always had a much bigger vision than just cups. We’re excited to be expanding our impact, our products, and our reach with a name that’s big enough to hold it all.”
Initially targeting the more than 4 billion single-use cups used at live events in North America each year, r.World started with its reusable r.Cup services in 2017, partnering with over a dozen visionary and committed artists including U2, the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band and Maggie Rogers. Today, the company focuses on building the requisite infrastructure needed to create widespread reuse, working with trailblazing cities, venues, concessionaires, restaurants, breweries, movie theaters, museums, zoos, schools, cities, corporations, and more.
In addition to operations in Las Vegas, r.World has built a network of industrial Wash Hub facilities servicing Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC. r.World is building the national reuse solution to meet the market demand for reuse.
To date, r.World has diverted millions of single-use cups and containers from landfills in over 100 cities, 40 states and 12 countries. At the time of formation, r.World (dba r.Cup) Founder and CEO Michael Martin donated 10% of the company to non-profits tackling the single-use waste crisis.
