Los Angeles, CA, 08.21.2020. PreZero US is actively sourcing plastic material grades #2-7 for domestic mechanical recycling. The California-based recycling company has recently opened facilities in Jurupa Valley, CA and Westminster, SC and will be paying competitively within the market for the source material.
The PreZero Environmental Campus in Jurupa Valley has begun processing plastic film material – also known as LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene) and LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene) into consistent, high-quality resins. PreZero brands these resins as CoreFilm and now has the capacity to ship on a truckload basis. Examples of the inbound material include grocery bags, shrink wrap and bubble wrap. This material is accepted at the facility as Grade A and Grade B bales, which are then shredded, washed, and pelletized. Prezero has extensive plans for further development of the environmental campus, including another plastics recycling line to process #2-7 Mixed Rigid Plastics (MRP), opening in 2021.
PreZero is also in the process of ramping up operations in South Carolina with an immediate focus on (MRP), and plastic film (LDPE/LLDPE) in the near future. PreZero is actively looking to source MRP bales from Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) throughout the US. Other sources for material include direct from commercial businesses and brokers. Acceptable contamination in these bales is <20% by weight (PET bottles, PET or PVC thermoform packaging/PVC/PS/Other, paper, cardboard, labels, liquids, and metal handles). The process will yield PP (Polypropylene) and HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) resins through shredding, sorting, washing and pelletizing. PreZero has plans for expansion of this facility also.
All LDPE, PP, and HDPE pelletized resins will undergo testing for quality and consistency in an ASTM certified laboratory. This ensures that all manufacturers we partner with will have the data they need for seamless PCR integration in their molding processes to create new products.
In total, PreZero has invested over $100 million in their facilities to expand recycling capacities in the US. The company also has a strategic direction to unveil additional processing facilities in more regions throughout the United States starting in 2021. The company will continue to push innovative mechanical recycling techniques as a sustainable method for processing difficult to recycle plastics and help prevent plastic waste from entering the delicate environment and oceans around us.
