Dive Brief:
- A public compressed natural gas (CNG) station will open in Woodbine, New Jersey in December 2014. This will be the first CNG station operated in Cape May County.
- Clean Energy Corporation will manage the facility, which will be located at the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) Sanitary landfill site. The project is expected to cost between $2 and $2.5M.
- Blue Diamond Disposal, who services the landfill, converted some of its fleet to use CNG; nearby companies are also considering changing to the alternative fuel source.
Dive Insight:
The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority accepted bids for the facility and, as the only bidder to submit a proposal, Clean Energy Corporation won by default. The lease will last for 15 years, with an option to renew for five more years. MUA will collect $1,000 monthly, and will receive a royalty for every gallon sold, a figure estimated at $1,400 per month.
