Dive Insight:
The waste and recycling firm said the litigation stems from a “legacy issue” that originated in the 1960s at the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Site. The area was used as a disposal site for pulp and paper waste from a mill.
The site was then added to the Superfund List, which was created to hold polluters accountable for the costs associated with the cleanup of these hazardous waste sites, in 2008.
