- The 2014 tournament received UL Environment’s "Zero Waste-to-Landfill" status, the highest classification that can be given for diverting waste from a landfill. 10% of waste was incinerated for energy.
- The recycling effort focuses on reusability. The waste created at the tournament is recycled, composted or brought to a waste-to-energy facility; vendors only use items and materials that are recyclable or compostable.

2014 was the second year in a row that the event has earned Zero Waste status. 563,008 attendees were at this year’s Open, which was scheduled from January 27 to February 2 in Scottsdale, AZ. Water used at the event was re-used, signs were designed using sustainable materials and the tournament used renewable energy bought from the local utility company.
