Dive Insight:
Vermont Gas said it is seeking to use more resources from Vermont, such agricultural waste that is used to produce methane through anaerobic digestion. The state currently uses methane for electricity production, but the resource, which Vermont Gas called renewable natural gas, is currently limited.
"Vermont Gas is also supporting the development of the first commercial-scale, agriculturally based renewable natural gas production facility in Vermont," said CEO and president Don Gilbert. The company "intends to make it, or a blend, available to more and more customers in the coming years as part of our continued commitment to expand the availability of cleaner and more affordable natural gas to more Vermonters."
