A recycling ordinance has been under consideration since 2009, and recently, research and surveys were conducted by Vail's environmental sustainability director. Vail has set a 2019 goal in which 25% of waste is to be recycled. Vail is behind in its rate of recyclables. Even with the established goal, the town will not reach the national recycling rate of 35%.
