An unmanned sanitation truck rolled down a driveway in reverse in Corte Madera, California, then made its way onto Highway 101, before crashing through a fence and rolling over on its side on the freeway.
An employee ran after the truck as it initially started rolling, but was unable to stop the vehicle as it gained momentum.
A co-owner of Mill Valley Refuse Service speculates that the parking brakes failed on the truck and the driver is not at fault.
Dive Insight:
Two lanes were closed off in response to the incident. It took over an hour to clear the road from commuter traffic which caused the highway to look like a "parking lot," according to the Marin News. Authorities were amazed the accident caused no injuries.
