• On April 29, the Teamsters protested Republic Services at the Waste Expo convention in Atlanta, Georgia. 
• According to a press release issued by the teamsters, the organization is requesting the company protect the health and safety of its employees and the community. 
• In the release, the group mentions the toxicity of various sites owned by Republic, including the notorious West Lake landfill in Bridgeton, Missouri and the Countrywide landfill in Ohio, currently undergoing remediation work.

Dive Insight:

The protesters, which also included members of the communities affected by Republic Services' sites, held up signs, handed out pamphlets and organized a press conference that detailed their greivances with the waste company. The Teamsters recently vocalized the group's desire to see Bill Gates step in to support cleanup at West Lake. Gates is a majority owner of Republic Services.
