Dive Brief:

• A resident in Santa Clara County, CA mistakenly packed up his pet tortoise and tossed it into the recycling bin on May 23.
• Chuck Wilcox, the owner of the tortoise, realized the mistake on May 26, and went to the Republic Services operation office in an attempt to locate his pet.
• The driver of the truck and some additional employees dumped the recycling that was still sitting in the truck and sorted through four tons of recyclables. After 10 minutes, the "search team" found the turtle, intact and seemingly healthy.

Dive Insight:

This story has a happy ending. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the British man who threw away his hard drive containing over $9 million worth of bitcoin into the trash.
