• Continental Tire announced that its plant in Sumter, SC, achieved zero landfill status. 
• The tire manufacturer works with a waste management firm, HWI Environmental Technologies, to process and repurpose the waste.
• This is Continental Tire’s second plant to attain zero waste; the company’s Mount Vernon, IL facility is also landfill-free. The Mount Vernon site recycles an average of 28 million pounds of materials annually.

Dive Insight:

The tire company encourages sustainability at all of its plants, with a focus on water conservation and energy reduction. The Sumter facility, in particular, implemented a water monitoring system that kept waster usage and steam leaks in check. The plant also educated employees about environmental practices- both at home and at the workplace.
