The Sacramento District Attorney's Office today filed a civil suit against a major local recycling company accusing it of gross environmental violations at five facilities that it operates from downtown to Elk Grove to Galt.
District Attorney Jan Scully told reporters at a press conference that River City Waste Recyclers is leaking oil and other pollutants into the ground, causing cloudy dust-ups and even creating dangerous fire conditions that actually led to a blaze last year at a River City operation on North B Street.
"The environmental problems at these five sites are unacceptable, both to the residents who live nearby and to our county as a whole," Scully said. "Furthermore, by ignoring the rules, River City Waste Recyclers actually gets an unfair advantage over legitimate businesses that do follow the rules. Practices like these cannot be tolerated."
