Starting the week of July 9, the City of Richmond will be eliminating trash collection on Fridays and will be switching to a four-day, 10 hours a day work week for waste collection.
The goal is to save money, primarily by reducing the number of trash collection routes from 113 to 90 a week, she said. Holiday overtime will be greatly reduced and there will no longer be Saturday collection, except in case of emergencies.
The plan should also create less traffic issues -- with one less day of trucks on the road -- and allow trucks to be serviced more, according to city officials.
