A couple dozen trash workers went on strike late last week against Republic Services Inc.'s Allied Waste Services unit in Mobile, Ala., according to the Teamsters.
Allied Waste has collection contracts with Prichard and Citronelle, Ala., according to the Mobile Press-Register. The Teamsters went on strike March 22 over differences about contract language regarding insurance surcharges, the newspaper reported. The Teamsters, in a press release, said Republic Services' union workforces in Columbus, Ohio, and Buffalo, N.Y., manned sympathy picket lines after the Mobile workers went on strike.
