- Republic Services, Inc. announced two new landfill gas-to-energy (LGTE) projects for the Bay Area of California.
- The combined facilities will produce 8.6 megawatts of energy for the local electricity grid. This translates to enough energy to power more than 5,100 homes in the community per year.
- This latest duo of sites marks Republic’s 71st and 72nd LGTE facilities in the country.

Republic Services’ 72 LGTE projects generate enough electricity to power 192,000 households and gas to heat an additional 201,000 homes. According to the EPA, reusing landfill gas is equal to removing more than four million cars from the road.
