Dive Brief:
- A truck in San Diego, California carrying recyclables was forced to dump its contents after the driver saw smoke coming out of the back of the truck.
- The driver, working on his collection route when he noticed the smoke, called the fire department. He drove to the closest station, where he was told to empty the materials onto the road.
- Flames burned the 20 by 35 foot pile of recycling, which measured 6 feet high. The heap of paper and plastic was sprayed with water by firefighters.
Dive Insight:
The road was closed for almost two hours while the incident was controlled. The street was re-opened after the contents of the truck were put into a different truck.
