• Progressive Waste Solutions announced its new renewable gas facility- the Complexe Enviro- in Terrebonne, Quebec, is online.
• The facility is touted as the largest of its kind in Canada, and is said to be one of the largest in North America; the facility is capable of processing 10,000 cubic feet of landfill gas per minute.
• The price tag for the facility came in at around $34.4 million in combined development and construction costs.

The value of the new plant matches well with the stated objectives of finding alternatives to fossil fuels. The Quebec site can generate enough gas to fuel 1,500 trucks for 20 years and result in the avoidance of greenhouse emissions of around 1.2 tons of carbon dioxide over 10 years. The waste firm, one of the largest in North America, operates in Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, and in Missouri. When combined, the site’s produce enough electricity to power 32,000 homes.
