Dive Insight:
The program was created after a national survey conducted on behalf of the two groups found that 81% of Americans responded that they would recycle if recycling receptacles were available. According to the American Beverage Association, 42% of drink containers are recycled in the U.S.
PepsiCo CEO Al Carey said that consumers want to recycle when out, but lack the appropriate ways to dispose of the containers. He continued that this is a huge opportunity that has remained unaddressed until now. According to Carey, the easier it is to recycle, the more likely it is that people will recycle.
