• The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) announced that Penn State University (PSU) received a 2014 Outstanding Higher Education Award for its campus recycling efforts.
• The school was selected as one of the best institutions -- from a pool of around 70 other universities -- for its stellar recycling program, which also connects with the industry.
• Recycling at the school is regularly updated and modified in order to maximize the potential to increase the diversion rate; the university is constantly on the lookout for better ways or new methods to implement in order to increase the recycling rate.

PSU’s efforts include recycling more than 100 kinds of waste, implementing a branding campaign used to increase campus  recycling rates and expand awareness. The school diverts approximately 10,000 tons of waste from landfills, 65% of which is solid waste.
