In 2013, Waste Management shifted gears as it sought to enter into the fracking waste market, citing an opportunity to access a sector not previously served by the company. The firm acquired two fracking waste disposal companies in North Dakota. Oil field waste removal is viewed as a growth industry; analysts predict fracking waste management services will be off the charts, reaching an estimated market size of $30 billion a year.
