Dive Brief:
- The National Waste & Recycling Association (NW&RA) is placing bumper stickers which show support for NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio's program aimed at decreasing pedestrian fatalities.
- The stickers will read “I Drive 25: Support the Mayor’s Vision Zero Plan,” a campaign created in response to numerous deaths of pedestrians on city streets.
- In January, the mayor introduced the “Vision Zero" initiative in an effort to reduce the number of fatalities to zero by 2024.
Dive Insight:
The New York City chapter of the trade organization is using the stickers as a reminder to drivers and pedestrians to observe the safety measure. The speed limit throughout New York City will decrease to 25 miles per hour in November. Lowering the limit is seen as a way to diminish the severity of accidents involving pedestrians and reducing the impact of accidents if they occur.
