Dive Insight:
According to Sharon Kneiss, the president and CEO of NW&RA, safety is one of the association's most popular programs. The organization recently launched its safety program for waste drivers, the Safe Driver Certification Program. Additional safety programs are Safety Monday, Be Safe Be Proud and Slow Down to Get Around. The focus of all of the programs is to promote safety in the workplace and to encourage others in the community to respect potential dangers to those employed in this industry. The NW&RA championed a Florida bill to protect sanitation workers on the job. The bill was passed and became a law in June.
