Two pieces of key solid waste legislation have been approved by the Florida Senate and House of Representatives during the 2012 legislative session.
The first bill is a major rewrite of the environmental permitting laws that includes language that will double the term of permit extensions for solid waste management facilities with leachate collection systems from 10 to 20 years.
The second bill creates a statewide Environmental Resource Permitting system. According to the NSWMA this legislation will give consistency to the five DEP districts when it comes to the permitting process.
