Dive Insight:
This is the latest sustainability-related news for Nestle. This includes recently announcing plans for reducing its water consumption in drought-stricken California, following criticism in April for its water bottling operations.
"Nestle Waters has a strong history of sustainable innovation and product stewardship advocacy, and the 100% rPET bottle aims to continue that legacy by increasing awareness of closed-loop recycling," said Debora Fillis Ryba, senior manager of sustainability at Nestle Waters North America.
Last month, Coca-Cola Co. revealed a similar bottle, made from 100% recyclable plant-based materials, touted as the first plant-based bottle in the world. The packaging is close to the traditional PET bottle in appearance, function, and recyclability while providing a lighter carbon footprint.
