- Nestle USA announced that all of its U.S. factories -- covering dairy, frozen, confections, baking, and beverages -- are landfill-free. All factories use ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
- In order to achieve zero-waste status, the company changed the way it approaches waste and product manufacturing. Composting, energy production and recycling are all part of its zero-waste efforts.
- The company operates 23 factories, 43 distribution centers and 13 sales offices in the U.S.

In 2014, 15% of Nestle Global’s factories became landfill-free, exceeding the company’s goals for 2015. The company says it manufactures recyclable water bottles using 50% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET). In 2013, CarbonLite Industries announced it planned to open a factory in Texas that would handle post-consumer PET. The plant produced recycled bottles for Nestlé Waters beginning in 2014.
