Dive Brief:
- Republic Services had the winning bid for a solid waste and recycling center contract in Bertie County, NC.
- Negotiations between Republic and the County Board of Commissioners are not yet underway and need to be finalized.
- The contract is worth an estimated $442,308 annually over a 10-year time span.
Dive Insight:
If the final deal is inked, Republic will oversee the recycling centers starting on July 1. The contract covers overseeing operations of five centers. The plan includes adding two additional sites, in addition to the landfill that Republic currently operates in the county.
Republic has had its fair share of scooping up contracts in the past. In July, Republic won a contract to provide waste services in San Angelo, TX, and was awarded an emergency contract in Gary, IN in October. In November, 2014, a court removed Waste Management as the operator of a transfer station in Ewing, NJ, then gave the contract to Republic Services.
