Just days after an Odor Alert was issued for the Bridgeton landfill in Missouri, the Missouri Attorney General is demanding more air monitoring be performed at the site.

Yesterday, the Attorney General requested a St. Louis County Circuit Court to order the owner of the landfill, Republic Services, to gather additional data about carbon monoxide emissions.

Attorney General Koster explained that having data spanning the entire site would paint a more accurate picture of the range of the fire, which has been burning underground since 2010, and would help regulators and officials to protect the public.

In November, elevated levels of hydrogen sulfide were causing health concerns. The Attorney General had reached an initial agreement with Republic Services in May of 2013.
