Arlington reports that, without waste limit measures, the waste removal contract with contractor JRM Hauling and Recycling would have increased.
From the article:
Arlington is preparing to roll out new trash regulations that will increase recycling pickups and place limits on the amount of garbage residents can throw out each week.
The town will also begin enforcing a mandatory recycling bylaw that has been on the books for several years, but has not been enforced because of limited staffing resources, said Michael Rademacher, Arlington’s director of public works.
The changes will be phased in over the next few months and are being done to increase recycling and keep down the cost of the town’s waste removal contract, Rademacher said.
“We do feel that there is a certain percentage of the public that doesn’t recycle and this will in essence force them to,” Rademacher said.
