- Metro Solid Waste in Louisville, Kentucky is beginning a program that is expected to reduce waste entering landfills. Trash cans will be replaced with orange carts, which are intended to help businesses and residents transition into a new citywide "Wet-Dry Recycling" program.
- Wet waste, including food, liquids and paper towels will be collected in black bags, while dry waste materials from offices should be placed into a clear bag. All bags will be deposited into an orange bin for pick-up.
- Downtown restaurants will receive brown carts exclusively used for disposing of food and other organic wastes. Metro Solid Waste will convert the organics collected into compost.

Louisville is on its way to achieve a long-term goal set by the county increase its waste diversion rate. The anticipated goal is 90% of waste streams diverted from landfills by 2042. This new program is expected to move the city forward in attaining the goal.
