Dive Summary:
- Full Circle Organics LLC, a food waste composting facility which opened in February 2013, is the first privately owned organics recycling business to open in Minnesota in two decades.
- The company, owned by Max Milinkovich, a former employee of Connecticut-based Oak Leaf Management, was started in response to complaints from corporations about a lack of organic recycling options and the logistics surrounding disposal of green waste.
- The food composting site is licensed to accept 110 tons of scraps per day and is currently bringing in between 60 to 90 tons every week, turning the leftovers from dining establishments into soil which it sells to landscapers.
From the article:
To start Full Circle, Milinkovich raised about $700,000 in family loans and bank financing. It took two years to complete the permitting and raise the money before he could launch the first facility, he said.
Full Circle generates revenue by selling compost to gardeners and landscapers and by charging fees to commercial customers for food-waste pickup. The business has 16 customers so far. Full Circle also has five commercial haulers who deliver food waste to his processing sites
