Dive Insight:
The Teamsters represent about 9,000 people employed by Republic Services.
Robert Morales, the Director of the Teamsters Solid Waste, Recycling and Related Industries Division said in a press release that the teamsters sent the county commissioners information about Republic Services in order to help the board reach a decision, including a report the Teamsters penned "Republic Services' Toxic Investments."
This is not the first time the Teamsters have disapproved of Republic Services. In April, the group protested against the waste and recycling company during the Waste Expo convention in Georgia. The basis of the protest was a request for the company to protect the health and safety of its workers and the community. The group cited various hazards found at landfills owned by Republic.
