Dive Brief:
- Florida’s Miami-Dade County announced that it will add almost 30 hybrid waste vehicles to its fleet.
- This brings the county’s total number of hybrid waste trucks to 64.
- The trucks have Parker Hannifin’s RunWise Advanced Series Hybrid Drive System technology installed in each hybrid Autocar E3.
Dive Insight:
In 2012, haulers in Cary, NC tested out one of the first rounds of hybrid-hydraulic fleets introduced by Parker Hannifin and Autocar. In preliminary results, many drivers reported less noise and a smoother ride in the trucks.
Each vehicle generally enjoys a 43% reduction in fuel consumption compared to diesel trucks, and engines in hybrid vehicles could potentially double a traditional vehicle’s mileage. Miami-Dade County seems to like them so far.
