ExxonMobil Pipeline Co. has paid the Montana Department of Environmental Quality $1.06 million for the cleanup and penalties as a result of the 2011 oil spill in the Yellowstone River. The money covers the cost of the cleanup and a $300,000 fine. The company is also bound to complete $1.3 million worth of DEQ-approved supplemental environmental projects. On July 1, an estimated 63,000 gallons of crude oil spilled into the Yellowstone River when the company's Silvertip Pipeline broke near Laurel, Mont.
