Dive Brief:
- Environmental Solutions LLC is proposing a new oilfield waste landfill in Belfield, ND.
- If permits are approved, the site will be the 12th landfill of this type in the state of North Dakota.
- The company plans to accept drill cuttings and well waste for projects within a 50-mile radius.
Dive Insight:
The proposed landfill will be constructed on a 17.5-acre site. In addition to a polyethylene plastic liner, regulations will require the facility to be lined with a minimum of three feet of compacted clay, and a leachate system will be installed to collect moisture. The landfill will receive drilling waste and salt from the wells, but will also be able to accept industrial waste in small amounts.
In September 2012, Waste Connections acquired an oil field waste facility for $1.3 billion.
