While the city of Dallas was recently dealt a setback in court over its flow-control ordinance, city leaders are continuing to meet and plan on how to recover assets from the trash it collects.
City officials had touted a plan to sort trash at resource recovery facilities as it was pushing forward with flow control in 2011. The City Council approved a flow control ordinance, which would send an additional 700,000 to 900,000 tons of waste to the city-owned landfill on top of the about 1.5 million tons of waste it receives annually. But the National Solid Wastes Management Association and several haulers, including industry giants Waste Management Inc. and Republic Services Inc., sued to stop the law.
