- Covanta Holding Corp. signed a five-year sustainable waste contract with Boston, MA.
- Every year, approximately 140,000 tons of waste generated within the city will be brought to an Energy-from-Waste facility and converted into energy. The energy created will be used to power 120,000 homes.
- Covanta has four EfW plants and seven transfer stations across the state of Massachusetts and has enjoyed a 14-year partnership with Boston.

Covanta operates 45 EfW plants, which work to transform up to 20 million tons of trash into renewable energy. The electricity generated is enough to power one million households every year. The 45 facilities also recycle up to 440,000 tons of metals annually.
