- Commissioners have approved oyster shell recycling in Charles County, Maryland. The program will be operated through the Oyster Recovery Partnership (ORP).
- The program provides the community with the ability to recycle oyster shells at the county recycling centers. Residents will receive a $1 tax credit per bushel collected for recycling.
- ORP is a leading non-profit for restoring oysters into the Chesapeake Bay, operating the regional Shell Recycling Alliance.

A cooperative commissioned the ORP to restore oysters into the Chesapeake Bay 20 years ago. Since then, the partnership has helped re-plant five billion oysters onto 1,600 acres of reefs using 30,000 bushels of recycled shells.
