• Sims Municipal Recycling officially opened its Sunset Park Materials Recovery Facility in Brooklyn, New York.
• The facility is touted as the largest MRF in the US, according to Waste Management World. The plant can process up to 1,000 tons daily. It will handle all recyclables from the city's curbside collections.
• The DSNY cited that 240,000 miles of roadway transport will be eliminated since the facility cuts down on the need to transport recyclables out of the city.
