A recent blog post by Christian Belady, general manager of Data Center Services for Microsoft shared the company's vision of grid independent fuel cell powered data centers, in which the data facility is located directly on its biogas fuel source such as a landfill or water treatment facility.
According to Belady his team is currently researching the first-ever grid independent fuel cell powered data center that is fuelled directly by biogas.
In his blog he said that the experiment so far is small scale and aims to demonstrate and measure the benefits. He added that the Seattle based software giant is also in talks with several municipalities about a public-private partnership to test a prototype.
