Dive Brief:
- Lockheed Martin and waste management firm Concord Blue are collaborating on two projects in New York and Germany that will turn waste into synthetic gas. Through pyrolysis and reformation, the waste is transformed to synthetic gas. That syngas is then reformed.
- A 250-kilowatt plant is planned for Owego, NY, and should be operational by this year's final quarter.
- A second project is planned for Herten, Germany, and is scheduled to start in April, to be fueled by waste wood.

Syngas can be used as fuel for transportation and for other uses, including generating electricity. Concord Blue’s CEO, Charlie Thannhaeuser, said the partnership between his company and Lockheed Martin is a milestone.
"We have the ability to further refine our process, standardize and modularize our solution, and take advantage of [Lockheed’s] global footprint and excellent network," he said in a news release.
