Dive Brief:
- Colgate-Palmolive announced a company-wide goal to eradicate packaging that is not recyclable across a majority of its product categories.
- The corporation, who partnered with As You Sow, a non-profit social corporate responsibility organization, says that by 2020, it anticipates using recyclable packaging in three out of four categories it offers.
- Colgate expects to create a recyclable toothpaste tube. At the present time, the tubes are made from plastic laminates.
Dive Insight:
As You Sow approached numerous corporations with proposals urging the companies to consider recyclable options for consumer products. Kraft, the makers of Capri-Sun juice pouches, use materials that are not able to be recycled at this point. The wrappers discarded in 2013 alone could fill a space larger than California and Texas combined.
Companies are employing sustainability and recyclability into its products as a way to become more environmentally sound. In May, Dell announced its goal to incorporate 50 million pounds of recycled-content plastics into its products by 2020.
