Coastal Waste & Recycling recently acquired two Florida waste businesses in an effort to expand its offerings in the state, including in the C&D and commercial recycling sectors.
Coastal acquired S&S Waste and In & Out Portables, a family-owned waste, grapple and portable restroom company based in Palm Beach County, Florida. It also acquired AFS Recycling, based in Fort Myers.
Coastal, which has been backed by a Macquarie Asset Management fund since June, started in 2017 and has completed several acquisitions since then, mainly in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Coastal CEO Brendon Pantano said in a statement that S&S Waste’s “vast experience” in the grapple business and its strong customer service reputation were a draw. Pantano sees S&S’s expertise as a way to “further enhance our customer experience in the construction and demolition hauling sector.”
S&S Waste started in 1987 and developed a grapple truck for moving C&D material, which it describes as an original design. According to the company’s website, S&S and In & Out Portables collectively had more than 80 employees and 50 trucks.
Coastal’s acquisition of AFS will allow the company to “internalize a significant portion” of the waste it collects in Southwest Florida and provide “greater opportunities to develop recycling programs for our commercial customers,” Pantano said. The acquisition will add a sixth MRF to Coastal’s portfolio.
Coastal previously acquired Pro Disposal, a South Carolina-based company with two transfer stations and two landfills, in July.
