- Aria Energy and Casella Waste Systems announced a partnership to develop, build and operate a gas-to-energy project at the Juniper Ridge landfill in Old Town, ME.
- The landfill is expected to generate enough methane from the site to power 4,800 homes in the area.

Officials from the Juniper Ridge landfill had previously been in talks to utilize the methane to heat a local university, but the project never got off the ground. The new collaboration will finally put the unused energy to use.
Aria Energy, based in Novi, MI, previously partnered with Rutland, VT-based Casella Waste at three landfill gas-to-energy projects owned by the solid waste management firm. Aria Energy itself owns and operates various renewable energy facilities in 16 states.
