Dive Brief:
- Casella Waste Systems has announced an agreement with two solar companies to create a new solar array project, according to Waste 360.
- The system will be located at a Casella-owned landfill in Coventry, VT. The site currently has a gas-to-energy plant, and the panels will be placed on a part of the landfill that is not accepting any more waste.
- The two other companies involved in the project are Borrego Solar Systems, who construct solar photovoltaic systems, and Soltage Greenwood, who will provide financing.
Dive Insight:
The project will use 9.018 panels, according to AZO Cleantech, and is expected to produce 3,199 MWh of electricity every year, potentially providing power to around 260 households. The Coventry landfill is the only active landfill in use across the state.
