Dive Brief:
-
In an effort to promote the recycling of caps from plastic bottles, the "Caps On" program will begin a collaboration with beverage companies to help spread the word to consumers.
-
Polypropylene caps are plentiful, with about 250 billion of them made annually, translating into 1.5 billion pounds of recyclable plastic.
-
Nestle Waters has been receptive to getting involved, and the program will reach out to other companies such as Coca-Cola and PepsiCo Inc.
Dive Insight:
This program started as an effort from the International Society of Beverage Technologists to spread the message that caps can be recycled via the haulers. The initial approach, however, was not viewed as being as effective as the new implementation could be with the vast resources and access to media outlets these companies may have.
