- Advanced Disposal, a privately-held waste and recycling company, in conjunction with energy services company Energy Systems Group, opened a new gas-to-electricity facility at the Pecan Row landfill in Valdosta, GA.
- The plant is expected to produce 4.8 MW of electricity, which translates into powering 2,000 households using methane emitting from the landfill waste, as reported by Biomass Magazine.
- The project is the firm's third landfill gas project in Georgia and sixth in the country, ESG president Greg Collins told Waste Management World.

In January 2014, five colleges in Virginia established an agreement with a gas operator to use landfill gas to power the campus. It not only saves the institutions money, but also cuts their carbon footprints down dramatically.
