Dive Insight:
Mergers and acquisitions continue to drive growth for both large and small solid waste management companies, with a trend toward acquisitions among smaller collection companies.
Still, big companies, like Advanced Disposal, continue to expand and transform smaller companies they purchase into more robust ones while strengthening their own market presence.
"Advanced Disposal continues to seek ways to expand our footprint, and the acquisition of Williams Sanitation presented an opportunity for us in the greater Dubois area," said Dave Lavender, Advanced Disposal’s region vice president.
This past August, the company issued an IPO to go public. Industry analyst Michael E. Hoffman, managing director of Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. Inc., told Waste360 that this decision may have been partly to open more types of business opportunities, some of which are restricted now. The company’s investments have extended into the niche of CNG’s, with expansion of its CNG fleet and launch of a CNG gas station in Hartland, WI in October, as well as a station in Macon, GA in September.
