Waste Management (NYSE: WM) is to open a landfill biogas to energy facility at Mahoning Landfill in New Springfield, Ohio.
The company said that the new the plant is designed to generate 4.8 MW of electricity - enough to power over 3500 homes - and will be operational by the end of this year.
The power generated at the Mahoning Landfill will be fed into the electrical power grid.
Waste Management added that it now owns or operates over 130 landfill gas to energy facilities in North America.
