• Pharrell Williams, a musician and fashion designer, debuted a new line of clothing that uses plastic harvested from oceans that is then converted into apparel. 
• G-Star’s new Raw for the Oceans collection launched on September 5, 2014 during New York Fashion Week. The line incorporates Bionic Yarn, a material created by Williams that recycles up to 10 tons of ocean debris.
• Bionic Yarn is touted by the company as 400% stronger than traditional yarn.

Celebrities with clothing lines aren't the only ones making moves to reduce the amount of waste in the world’s oceans. In June 2014, the U.S. State Department announced executive plans to eliminate ocean pollution. The department’s “Trash Free Waters” program uses material recovery and sustainable product design to reuse materials before it can reach the ocean. Part of the plan calls for a reduction in the volume of ocean waste, specifically plastics, by 2025.
