Dive Brief:
- Waste industry seasoned pros Bill Killian and Eric Konik have created a new venture, K2 Waste Solutions LLC, to acquire waste industry companies and create new ones. The firm recently bought Phoenix, AZ-based Greenline Waste & Recycling. Terms of the sale were not released.
- The business owners formed the new company, based in Corpus Christi, TX, to assemble a group of waste industry firms. K2 will focus on mid-sized markets.
- Konik, co-president of K2, detailed the reasons behind the first acquisition. "Greenville’s owner, Brett McClue, had built a nice little resi hauler in Phoenix in his short time in business, and we believe our involvement with Greenline will allow for future growth,” Konik said.
Dive Insight:
In a time when some waste and recycling companies are merging due to dwindling profits, corporate visionaries are seeing value in re-investing in the industry. Mid America Recycling recently re-started as a new brand with its old name, since its co-owners saw opportunity where others have seen mostly tough business conditions. The owners of K2 Waste Solutions appear to be of a similar mindset.
